1 What attracted you to the property when you bought it?
Standing back and looking at this 1924 period property I was captivated by the house’s kerb appeal, its grand appearance, being well set back from the road, and with wide steps leading up to the door. On stepping inside I was impressed by the long hallway. and the wonderful flow of the house as I walked from room to room. The high ceilings, characterful original features, and spacious rooms with large windows allowed light to flood in, creating a welcoming atmosphere. It was clear that each and every room needed much TLC, and I am so pleased that I was able to visualise the gem that this house would become. The one word that sprung to mind was ‘potential’, masses of potential with further scope for extension both at the back of the house and within the generously sized loft space.
2 What changes and improvements have you made to it during your tenure?
I eagerly began a mission to transform the outdated décor to create a bright, neutral welcoming home whilst retaining the original features. This has included exposing the original floorboards, re-plastering of several ceilings and walls, creating a downstairs cloakroom, replacing sanitary ware, replacing the front door and a large proportion of the glass in the double glazed windows, revamping the kitchen and repainting every room in the house. The outside space gained much needed attention as new hedging and shrubs were planted at the front, and in the back garden the old decking has been replaced with paving slabs, with addition of further plants to all the borders.
3 What have you enjoyed about living there?
This house has embraced myself and my children to become a family home to be cherished, never short of space nor of love. Borough Green is welcoming and friendly where every generation is drawn to the ample range of amenities available in the village. Everything feels as though it is on my doorstep, from the local supermarkets, post office services, library, places of worship, hairdressers, newsagents, GP surgery, pharmacy, vets, opticians, dental surgery, cafes, takeaways, restaurants, public house, schools, and so much more. One of the delights is that there are beautiful country walks a stone throw away where I can escape into the peace of nature. A huge plus is having a station within a short walking distance with fast train services into both London Victoria, London Bridge and Charing Cross, easy access to motorways and to the towns of Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Maidstone. I honestly feel as though this house offers the best of both worlds, close to amenities as well as to beautiful countryside.
