Seller Insight:
What is your favourite room in the house and why?
Can I cheat and have two? I love the living room; the main window is just stunning and at different times of day you get different types of light through it. Curling up on the sofa with a tea, I often have the "I can't believe that's my living room window" thought. My sneaky second choice is the library mezzanine which overlooks the living room, it's such a cosy space, where you feel connected to the main living room at the same time as having your own space from it. I could, and do, read there for hours.
Who do you think will be the ideal new owner?
I think either a couple or a family. Family wise you have schools up the road and it's such a safe place to be, parks on your doorstep, walks, plus good sized bedrooms – so no squabbling over a box room! We've loved living here as a couple, we both run and cycle and having the Cotswolds and lakes on our doorstep has been wonderful.
What do you love most and why?
I will always love the character of this house, everything is unique with so much history, the building is so beautiful, especially the windows. Even though it's a large open living room, it always feels homely, it's the first thing people say (after "Wow!).
What do you love about the local community?
Purton is such a friendly and safe place, without being intrusive. We love the Purton farm shop, taking a lazy walk on a Saturday morning to get fresh eggs and vegetables – we recommend the caramel shortbreads too!
How easy is it to commute from here?
There are two very easy routes to junction 16 for the M4, you're there in 10 minutes. Purton itself isn't traffic heavy at all so it's a very easy place to commute from. 10 minutes from Swindon, 10 minutes from the A419, 10 minutes from the lakes and the Cotswolds, and 10 minutes from the M4.
What made you choose this property over others that were available at the time?
There was nothing else like this house, and there still isn't. I like individuality, character, and beautiful spaces and this ticked all of those boxes. The feeling you get when you walk into the living room never goes away. This house will always have a piece of my heart.
Accommodation Summary:
A true hidden gem. Old School Mews was sympathetically converted in 2018 from the former local school which dated back to 1884, into an exclusive, private development of just seven unique homes.
From the front door, you can be just a short walk away from local shops and pubs, or just 15 minutes away from the Cotswolds by car. Purton is one of those villages where you really do get the "best of both" when it comes to the convenience of having local amenities around you as well as easy access to beautiful open countryside.
Ground Floor:
The living space within 3 Old School Mews is really something. As you enter the room, the eye is immediately drawn to the double-height, vaulted ceiling and the striking, multi-pain stone mullion windows which allow light to pour into the room. The living space is then open plan to the smart, fitted kitchen with plenty of room for dining.
Also located on the ground floor is the master suite. The generous double bedroom has a door out onto the south-facing courtyard, a spacious walk-in wardrobe with ample hanging space and further under stair storage cupboard, as well as an en-suite shower room.
First Floor:
A statement galleried landing leads to bedrooms two and three which are both double rooms. Also on the first floor is the modern, family bathroom and the quaint gallery with fitted bookshelves - the perfect quiet corner to sit and enjoy a peaceful moment.
Outside:
Outside, 3 Old School Mews benefits from a level, private garden which has been predominantly laid to lawn with a large, decked terrace, perfect for alfresco dining.
Parking:
There are two allocated parking spaces in front of the property alongside an allocated visitor parking space for the development.
Location:
The house is situated just off of Purton's charming High Street and moments from the amenities. The village has a Co-op and other convenience stores, along with an organic farm shop, pharmacy, medieval church and a primary school. Everyday shopping needs are well served by the pretty market towns of Cirencester and Malmesbury. Both have weekly and artisan markets and large supermarkets as well as independent boutique shops and cafés. Sporting opportunities include all manner of water sports at the Cotswold Water Park, just nine miles away, excellent cycling and running routes on quiet country roads, and golf at Basset Down and Ogbourne Downs clubs.
Local schooling options include the Cheltenham colleges, Wycliffe, Rencombe and Marlborough College, with a variety of state primary and secondary schools between Swindon and Cirencester. National road and rail links are easily accessible via the M4 and Swindon Train Station, both approximately five miles away.
